After months of distance training, road races from 5k- half marathons, cross countries and the occasional OCR including Tough Guy just 3 weeks ago I decided to put in a few shorter, faster sessions on the track to see how I’d fair over the 800m indoors and I was pretty pleased with the outcome.

The Birmingham Games at the National indoor arena always offers strong competition and although I have won it in the past I have surprised to find myself in the ‘A’ race after only registering 2 800m times during the whole of the 2013 outdoor season and I new I’d just have to hang on to the back of the field and hope to be dragged round to a sub 2 minute time which I’d be happy with.

That’s exactly what happened. I finished in 6th place but was quite surprised and very satisfied with a time of 1.58.31.

Its nice to know that I can still knock out a sub 2 minute 800m race off the back of little training and hopefully this will stand me in good stead for the future.
