My first race as a 30 year old
This was my fourth Mud Sweat and Beers (MSB) race and after 3 different venues (all in Daventry) it was back to what had been my favourite- Long Furlong farm. I was really looking forwards to my first race as a 30 year old and heading into it hoping to get back to winning ways.
I started the 10k, 2 lap course steadily but still found myself in the leading group with 2 guys I’ve got to know from various different events over the past year or so, Jack Mason and Sam Cleveland. Myself and Jack chatted most of the first lap while Sam had a slight lead then on lap two I moved up onto Sam’s shoulder ready to make my move. With around 4k to go I moved into the lead and upped the pace before pulling well clear on a steep hills section of the course.
From then on I was able to really enjoy the great mix of obstacles as I came into the section packed full of wall climbs, balance beams & trench jumps before reaching the awesome climax of an epic inflatable slide that lead to the finish line where I came home in first place.
I was able to really get into my running on certain sections of this course and enjoy the obstacles, mud and water while working on my technique for future races. I felt strong and gained extra confidence going into the last if the world championship trials next weekend.
